I am offering basic natural horsemanship (better known as horse whispering) lessons at Sweet Meadow Stables in the Roxana/W. Fenwick area.
Natural horsemanship is the philosophy of working with horses based on the horse’s natural instincts and methods of communication. The word “horsemanship” broken down is horse-man-relationship. Horsemanship means the horse and the man in the process of building a relationship. When we build a relationship that is meaningful, it consists of respect, trust, love and really listening and communicating to each other. This is the foundation of building a relationship with a horse, which will resemble the relationship between horses. Natural horsemanship is the understanding of the horse’s natural instincts and body language, and communicating with the horse in his own language. It is derived from wild horses being observed. You will learn how horses communicate, while also focusing on safety. Horses are herd animals and therefore are very social. A horse’s reaction comes from instinct. They are intelligent and have highly developed senses. You will learn to develop a bond with a horse based on mutual respect and trust, and not the use of fear and pain. Through games with the horses, you will build trust and confidence, know how to care for them, and understand how they learn. Since all the games are on the ground – no riding involved – the lessons are beneficial for children and adults. Working with horses can be self-empowering and a heart-opening experience, while also being therapeutic for the soul. I teach one on-one basic lessons. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
